Here are 8 places worth checking out next time you’re in San Juan.
1. The Station

Hidden behind Trevor’s on the Tracks, The Station is easy to miss if you don’t know it’s there. The restaurant serves drinks and dinner inside restored vintage rail cars sitting right next to the train tracks, which already makes it one of the more unique dining spots in Orange County. It also hosts live music most nights.

📍 26701 Verdugo St, San Juan Capistrano
2. JD Flannel Donuts & Coffee

JD Flannel has become a destination donut shop, especially after being named Yelp’s best donut shop in California. The flavors lean creative without feeling gimmicky, with favorites like brown butter sea salt, maple bacon, and oversized cinnamon rolls drawing lines most weekends.
One thing that makes the shop stand out is its gluten-free options, which are surprisingly good and hard to find at a serious donut spot. Even people who claim they’re “not donut people” usually leave carrying a pink box.
📍 31878 Del Obispo St #118, San Juan Capistrano
3. The Coach House Concert Hall
The Coach House has been a cornerstone of San Juan Capistrano’s music scene for nearly 50 years, and there’s really nowhere else in Orange County quite like it. Major artists including Johnny Cash, B.B. King, Bonnie Raitt, Chris Isaak, Miles Davis, Willie Nelson, and Etta James have all performed here over the decades.
What makes the venue special isn’t just the lineup. It’s the experience itself. The room is intimate enough that every seat feels close to the stage, but comfortable enough that you can actually relax, eat dinner, order drinks, and enjoy the show without fighting crowds.
There’s also something refreshingly unpretentious about the place. You’ll see longtime locals, serious music fans, couples on date night, and people dancing in the aisles by the end of the night.
4. Los Rios Historic District

Los Rios is the oldest continuously lived-in neighborhood in California, lined with cottages, gardens, cafés, galleries, and adobe homes dating back more than 230 years.

Built in 1794 for Feliciano Rios, a soldier attached to Mission San Juan Capistrano who came to Alta California with Father Serra in 1776. The Rios Adobe is the oldest continually occupied residence in California and is currently home to the 10th generation of the Rios family.
One family has lived in the same adobe for 10 generations, which becomes a lot more impressive when you’re standing on the narrow little street imagining how much California history passed through this area. It’s one of the most charming places in Orange County.
📍 31831 Los Rios St, San Juan Capistrano
5. Rosewood Social

Rosewood Social is a rooftop bar and restaurant overlooking the Mission, tucked above the busy stretch of Camino Capistrano downtown.

The cocktails are balanced, the food is consistently good, and the rooftop setting gives it a quieter atmosphere compared to some of the busier spots below. .
6. Peace Dome

The giant white Peace Dome sits at The Ecology Center and serves as a meditation and wellness space used for yoga classes, sound baths, workshops, and retreats. Most people driving through town have no idea it’s there.
📍 32701 Alipaz St, San Juan Capistrano
7. Campesino Cafe

Located at The Ecology Center, Campesino Cafe sits on a real working regenerative farm where ingredients are grown directly on the property.
The menu changes seasonally depending on what’s being harvested. It’s one of the few places where “farm-to-table” genuinely means something.
📍 32701 Alipaz St, San Juan Capistrano
8. Shopping
The Old Barn Antique Mall

The Old Barn Antique Mall is packed with vintage finds, antiques, records, furniture, old signs, quirky décor, and hidden treasures tucked into nearly every corner. You can spend a long time wandering through the booths without seeing the same thing twice.
📍 31791 Los Rios St, San Juan Capistrano
Ortega's Capistrano Trading Post

From the outside, Ortega’s looks like a small tourist shop. Inside, it’s one of the biggest collections of Native American jewelry and turquoise in Southern California. Cases are filled with sterling silver, vintage turquoise pieces, handcrafted belts, pottery, and Western art collected over decades.
📍 31738 Los Rios St, San Juan Capistrano
Final Stop: Take the Train

One of the best parts about exploring San Juan Capistrano is that most of these places are just steps from the train station. You can hop off the Amtrak or Metrolink and spend the entire day walking between rooftop bars, historic adobes, live music, vintage shops, coffee spots, and restaurants without constantly getting back in your car.
