We almost drove right past the entrance to The Ranch at Laguna Beach. Even with navigation on, it’s easy to miss, which feels fitting for a place that still somehow flies under the radar.

The Turn That Changes Everything
Once you turn in, everything changes. You leave PCH behind and drop into Aliso Canyon, where the noise disappears and the landscape opens up into golf greens, eucalyptus trees, and steep canyon walls. It doesn’t feel like the beach anymore. It feels slower, quieter, and a little unexpected.
The property dates back to the 1950s as a golf course and has since been reworked into a full resort. But it doesn’t feel overly polished or exclusive. You don’t need a reservation or a full-day plan to enjoy it, which is part of the appeal.
Sit Outside

We skipped the main restaurant and went straight to The Porch, which ended up being the move. It’s casual, open-air, and set right along the green with the canyon rising behind it. You can grab coffee, wine, or cocktails, and there’s a full menu if you want to stay awhile.
The One Everyone Talks About: Harvest
That said, Harvest, the resort’s farm-to-table restaurant, is a big draw. We didn’t eat there this time, but multiple friends swear by their brunch. It’s the kind of place people plan around, especially on Sundays when there’s mid-morning live music that turns it into more of an experience than just a meal.
When the Music Starts, Everything Shifts

By late afternoon, live music kicked in and the whole space shifted. People settled in, drinks in hand, and it started to feel less like a hotel and more like a relaxed outdoor hang that just happens to be in one of the best settings in South OC.
A glass of wine runs about $10, which, for Laguna, feels almost suspiciously reasonable. Valet is complimentary, which removes the usual parking headache. And despite how good it is, it’s not overrun, at least not this time of year.
We asked our server why, and she laughed. Apparently, it is packed in the summer.
