This weekend’s serving up a little bit of everything—secret comedy in Laguna Hills, bacon cotton candy at the OC Fair, yoga in a Peace Dome, and wine sipping in a vineyard. Let’s uncork the weekend.

šŸŽ SJC Gets Dramatic
A new Performing Arts Center is coming to San Juan Capistrano. According to @926oc it was approved by the city’s Design Review Committee on July 10.

But not everyone’s clapping just yet—on social media, many say the proposed look feels too modern and doesn’t match the city’s signature Spanish heritage vibe. Whatever the aesthetic, it will further expand the city’s cultural offerings and make the city a real destination point.

⛽ Costco’s Pumped in Mission Viejo
Costco is opening its first-ever stand-alone gas station in Mission Viejo, taking over the old Bed Bath & Beyond site just off the 5 Freeway. With 40 pumps, it’ll be the largest Costco gas station in the country. Construction kicks off this Fall, with an expected grand opening in Spring 2026.

🐐 Laguna’s Goats Just Got Baaaack-up
Laguna Beach’s goats are a critical part of the city’s wildfire prevention strategy. By grazing on dry brush in high-risk areas, they help mitigate fires. This week, the herd got a boost with a third Peruvian herder joining the team to help guide them through steep terrain and dense vegetation.

šŸ¹ Not Baja, But Close…
Happy Hour at Todos Santos

Todos Santos in RSM has a happy hour worth your time!

Fresh off a trip to the real Todos Santos in Baja, we came back craving tacos and tequila—and Todos Santos in RSM delivered.

Todos Santos Restaurant & Bar is a vibrant spot with a great happy hour.

Here’s why it’s worth your time:

šŸø $5 Margaritas on Mondays — all day!

šŸ•‘ Happy Hour: 2–6pm on weekdays, 4–6pm on weekends with deals like $4 draft beer, $8 house margarita and $10 cadillac margarita (in the bar & patio)

🌮 Taco Tuesday features taco trios for $10, drink specials and a live DJ after 9pm.

It’s festive without being overwhelming, and the patio is a sweet spot to wind down (or kick things off).

Absolutely!

A snapshot from our recent trip to San JosĆ© del Cabo, and Todos Santos—the inspiration behind our write-up on the happy hour at Todos Santos in RSM.

About Us: Lorna’s an OC native who has lived in Spain, France and New Zealand but always returns home for the tacos, the trails, and the beautiful tree-lined streets of Mission Viejo. Jason’s a Brit who swapped pub life for paddleboards and now splits his time between aquascaping and crafting perfect cocktails. We started The Scene because there’s so much to see, do, and savor. Thanks for letting us be a small part of your weekend.

🧐 Trivia Answer:
Correct Answer: D) Manhattan Beach

āœ… While ā€œThe OCā€ was set in Newport Beach, most of the show was filmed in and around Manhattan Beach, including the high school scenes (actually filmed at Mira Costa High). Only a few pilot scenes were shot in Orange County itself. Producers chose it because it was cheaper and logistically easier than filming in OC, where permits and travel costs were higher.
